The Lennart Neubauer Show in Insane Conditions | FPT Brouwersdam Day 2 Recap

Nuclear winds, a massive upset, a nine-heat comeback and a record-shattering Super Final. Brouwersdam turned it up another notch on Day 2. The forecast delivered, and then some. Day 2 kicked off in solid 4.4 conditions, with the wind cranking harder and harder as the day progressed. Rain was pouring down, but the wind showed absolutely no signs of backing off.

Men’s Single Elimination: Upset Alert!

First up on the menu was wrapping up the Pro Men’s Single Elimination. With the opening round completed yesterday, four second-round heats were on the menu, and there were some serious matchups in store. Davy Scheffers picked up exactly where he left off on Day 1, taking down Tim Gerdes with a last-second dose of Davy magic: a clutch Puneta Burner to wrap up the heat.

Jacopo Testa and Yentel Caers also progressed as expected, setting up a pair of heavyweight semifinal matchups. But the real fireworks came in the fourth heat: Youp Schmit vs Lennart Neubauer. Few would have predicted what followed. Youp put together an outstanding heat, finding the moves and consistency needed to take control, while Lennart struggled to find his usual rhythm. In the biggest upset of the event, Youp knocked out the event favourite in the second round, sending Lennart straight into the Double Elimination.

And Youp wasn’t done there. In the semifinals, he continued his charge by taking down Davy Scheffers, while Yentel Caers dispatched Jacopo Testa to book his place in the final, setting the stage for the Single Elim Finals: Youp Schmit vs Yentel Caers.

Youp couldn’t quite recreate the form that had carried him past Lennart and Davy, putting up 31 points in the final. Yentel, on the other hand, was firing on all cylinders, delivering a double-moves-only heat topped off with a Shifty. A score of over 39 points secured him the Single Elimination victory.

Men’s Double Elimination: This is the Lennart Show

As soon as the Single wrapped up, it was straight into the Pro Men’s Double Elimination, giving riders knocked out of the Single another shot at climbing back through the rankings. And two riders wasted absolutely no time making their presence felt.

Luka Stomp, who had fallen to Yentel Caers in the Single, continued the momentum from his impressive Open Fleet performance. He powered through three heats, scoring 30 points in each, and quickly established himself as one to watch in the Double. Takumi Moriya was on a tear of his own. After losing to Davy Scheffers in the Single, Takumi fought his way past local boys Bodhi Kempen and Tim Gerdes, putting together back-to-back 35-plus-point heats. Landing an insane variety of moves both ways, including Kabikuchis and Spock Culos, he was making it clear that he was hungry for ra comeback.

But there was one rider who would take the Double Elimination to another level entirely.

Lennart Neubauer.

After suffering that early upset against Youp Schmit in the Single, Lennart came into the Double with a vengeance. And he wasted no time making a statement, putting up 40 points against Primus Sorling. Next up was Takumi Moriya in what turned into one of the tightest battles of the day. Both riders pushed, with the heat going right down to the wire. Takumi led the heat for close to 6 minutes, but a clutch last-minute Air Funnel Burner upgrade gave Lennart the edge by just under one point in the dying moments of the heat.

He then convincingly dispatched Luka Stomp, and this is where the real madness began. From this point onwards, Lennart was filling his score sheets with almost exclusively double power moves, putting up 40-plus points in every heat. Luka Stomp, Davy Scheffers and Jacopo Testa all fell to the charging Greek, each removed in dominant fashion as Lennart continued his tear through the Double.

That run brought him face-to-face with Youp Schmit for a rematch of the upset that had sent him down the comeback route in the first place, and this time, Lennart had other plans. Both riders brought out their best moves in an exciting heat, but Youp simply couldn’t match the firepower coming from the Greek. Lennart broke the 44-point barrier, with massive Double Power moves, topped off by a Shifty filling his score sheet from start to finish.

Only one rider stood between Lennart and completing the comeback: his biggest rival, Yentel Caers. By this point, Lennart had already sailed seven heats in the Double, and he was scorching hot. He came out swinging against Yentel, continuing the pattern of huge Air moves and Double Power moves that had carried him through the previous heats.

Then came the moment of the event, when Lennart pulled out a move he himself openly calls “not his best”: the Double Air Culo. He landed it absolutely perfectly, earning the only 10.00-rated move of the entire event.

Yentel, meanwhile, took a little longer to find his rhythm. Uncharacteristically, the Belgian struggled on port tack, crashing repeatedly and managing just a Kono and a Shaka on that side. Against a rider operating at Lennart’s level, there was little room for mistakes. The result? Lennart completed his run through the Double Elimination, setting up a Super Final.

The Super Final: One Heat, One Winner

Nine back-to-back heats. One last showdown. Everything on the line. And somehow, the Super Final was even more unreal than the run that had brought them there. Both riders pulled out Double Air Culos, while Yentel unleashed a Shifty Shaka. Lennart responded with a super-high-scoring Air Bob Culo and an Air Flaka Ponch, alongside a whole lot more insanity.

It was a heavyweight battle right down to the wire, with neither rider giving the other an inch. Then the final scores came in.

Lennart Neubauer: 46.67 points.

Yentel Caers: 45.67 points.

By just 1.10 points, Lennart had done it. And, with the highest heat

In his first-ever full Double Elimination comeback, he fought through nine heats to take the win, turning an early upset into one of the most spectacular comebacks in recent memory on tour. It was a feat usually associated with Yentel himself, the master of the Double Elimination charge, but this time it was Lennart who wrote the script, from an early exit to a Super Final victory. From chasing the pack to taking down his biggest rival.

But the men weren’t the only ones putting on a show.

Pro Women’s Double: 3.6 Full Power

As the day drew towards its end, the wind hit its absolute peak. With 3.6/4.0 sails fully powered, the Pro Women’s Double Elimination brought one last round of action in truly nuclear conditions. And for Bijou Shahmirian, this was where she felt comfortable.

Sailing a lot in Karpathos, Bijou looked at home in the combination of nuclear winds and choppy water. that had developped throughout the day. Throwing big Forward Loops throughout her heats, she first took down Melina Schutt who had started building a run of her own, before progressing past Živa Batis in a closely fought battle.

Her charge was eventually stopped by Lisa Kloster, who put together a very solid heat in the extreme conditions. Lisa capped off her performance with a big buzzer-beater Skopu, finishing with an 18.6-point heat to book her place in the final. And waiting there was a familiar face.

Maaike Huvermann vs Lisa Kloster.

The two have become familiar rivals at the top of the women’s fleet, and this time it was Maaike who came out firing. She put together a seriously strong heat, landing a Skopu, Shakas on both tacks, a Spock Kono and a Burner to rack up an impressive 26.8 points. Lisa put up a solid performance of her own, but Maaike had the edge, taking the win in the Pro Women’s Double Elimination.

And with that, Day 2 in Brouwersdam came to a close, after insane action, morning to evening. While the competition is all wrapped up, the action isn’t over yet as the coming days still look windy, with a few experimental Super Session formats planned.
