Mathias Vingaard Victorious at the Danish Open | Danish Open x FPT Event Recap
October 20, 2025

While the Tow-In Action is in full swing in Naxos, Denmark delivered a nuclear forecast for the second round of the Danish Open freestyle championship over the course of the past few days.
Mathias Vingaard claimed victory after an intense day of single and double elimination battles at the Danish Open Freestyle. With gusty winds and glassy sections testing every rider’s consistency, the event delivered one of the most exciting opening days in Danish freestyle history.
This year introduced a new competition format separating freestyle from wave events to ensure optimal conditions. Riders judged riders, qualification rounds ensured fair seeding, and the updated structure was designed to highlight the best freestyle action Denmark has to offer.
The action kicked off with a qualifier between Lukas Tollak and Melina Schütt. Lukas impressed with a clean Funnel but sailed ahead of time, while Melina stayed composed, landing stylish Shove-Its and Spocks to advance.
In the quarter-finals, close friends Kasper Gaj and Nicolai Frandsen put on one of the most exciting heats of the day. Kasper’s clean Flakas narrowly beat Nicolai’s massive Flaka after a late Double Spock crash. Arne Jörn, the only German in the fleet, advanced past Melina with powerful one-handed Burners, while Anton Aalborg edged out Asger Fonnesbech by just 0.4 points after a tight battle of Spocks and Konos.

Arne continued his charge in the semis, defeating Kasper with Ponch, Shaka, Burner and Culo in an impressive display. On the other side, Mathias Vingaard powered through Anton Aalborg with a mix of Kono, Culo, Skopu and his signature Shove-It Spock.
In lighter winds, Kasper secured third place in the Losers Final with clean Flakas and the event’s first Clew-First Spock. The Winners Final between Vingaard and Jörn saw Mathias deliver flawless consistency—Skopu, Burner, Culo, and a Burner-Funnel combo—to take a decisive win and lead after the single elimination.
The comeback round saw Melina Schütt continue her strong form, beating Lukas Tollak before narrowly losing to Nicolai Frandsen in a high-scoring duel. Nicolai then advanced past Asger Fonnesbech and Anton Aalborg with consistent Funnels and Spocks.
A rematch with Kasper Gaj for third place followed, where Nicolai’s clean Funnel earned him another win. He then faced Arne Jörn, who stopped his run with powerful Burners and a Culo to set up a final showdown with Mathias Vingaard.

The Grand Final delivered everything the crowd hoped for. Arne came out firing, landing a Shaka, Burner 360, Culo and a huge Ponch that set an early benchmark. Mathias, unfazed, answered with trademark power and flow—Air Skopu, massive Culos, Air Funnel and Burner—executed with perfect timing and control.
Just as the heat seemed settled, Mathias surprised everyone with a no-handed Shove-It Spock, the standout move of the entire event. The crowd erupted as the judges rewarded the daring combination with near-perfect scores. Finishing with almost 30 points, Vingaard secured a dominant win in the double elimination and was crowned overall champion of the Danish Open Freestyle.
