After super busy competition day yesterday with great wind conditions, Fuerteventura presented itself in a complete different way on day three of the competition. Moody skies and even some rain, which is very usual in this time of the year, would keep the wind from improving. The sailors were kept on stand-by and a small tow-in supersession has been launched in the afternoon. Yentel Caers (JP), winner of the double elimination and Tonky Frans (RRD/RRD), current tour leader, were putting on a great show, going for air funnell burners, skopus and big double air culos.
It was nice to see that even some of the juniors and rookies were taking part. After a few runs with the jetski in front of the Matas Bay Watersport Center, the westerly wind started to pick up and the riders could pump themselves into some moves. This raised the hopes to at least start a second single elimination for the juniors.
However, since the wind didn’t seem to improve until 6.00 pm, race director Tom Hartmann decided to call it a day. Fingers crossed that the wind will kick in tomorrow, on the last competition day here at Fuerteventura.
